The transformed Middle School building will become a center for innovative Montessori-based education. It will house equipment and technology to advance deep content understanding, help to inspire creativity and lead to design-thinking. Our students will graduate from Bay Farm as happy, kind, aware humans with a notable academic foundation that will serve them beyond their schooling into adult life. However, no matter how amazing the Middle School facility is, it's the adults who teach our students who help achieve these goals.

After a thorough recruitment process, I am thrilled to announce that we have hired a uniquely talented educator to guide our middle school students. Laura Honeywood comes to us from The Academy of the Pacific Rim, where she led the History and Social Studies Department. A passionate educator focused on helping a wide range of students develop and communicate their voice; Laura has taught many subjects and levels, from AP US Government to Middle School Social Studies to Refugee Resettlement. Laura earned her BA in Theatre Arts from Brown University and Masters in International Education from the American University in Washington, DC, and was the unanimous choice of our hiring committee.

It is clear to us that Laura is committed to helping middle school students learn the skills and concepts that are essential to success in high school and beyond. She believes in taking an individualized approach to teaching and sought out Bay Farm because of our commitment to personalized learning and our belief in the whole child. Laura strongly believes in the Montessori philosophy and has already begun coursework leading to Montessori Middle School credentials.

Laura is a teacher who holds students to high expectations and understands the experiences and support students need to attain those expectations. She will be leading the Middle School, working closely with Jenny in The Shop and Brianna in Math and Science, to provide an unparalleled middle school experience for all our students.

The addition of Laura to our team is a strong move towards a vibrant, developmentally appropriate, and challenging middle school at Bay Farm. Her teaching talent, caring personality, and in-depth academic background will enable her to meet students where they are academically, and design individualized plans to build confidence and skills for each Bay Farm Middle Schooler.

Laura will be reaching out soon to introduce herself.

Thank you for your support,
Conrad
