As we move towards uniting the curriculum with common goals and practices, I have another exciting staffing announcement. Kelley Collins will become our school’s Director of Education beginning in the 2020-2021 school year. A 20-year veteran teacher with experience at all levels in our school, Kelley is widely known as an excellent teacher with high standards and a fantastic ability to bring out the best in students. Kelley has been a rock in ELII, providing our students and their families an unparalleled experience. Now she will bring her Montessori certified educational expertise to all of Bay Farm. She is passionate about delivering on the Bay Farm promise of an individualized and challenging curriculum, and I am looking forward to working closely with Kelley to support our teachers and students.
I remember teaching the concept of opportunity cost to my 4th-grade students many years ago, and this staffing change is a great example. The benefit that everyone will receive by Kelley taking this leadership role at Bay Farm comes at the cost of not having her talent in ELII. The good news is that Brianna will remain in ELII, becoming the lead teacher. Brianna will have the support of the Director of Education, Nancy, and a new humanities teacher.
Brianna is highly motivated to continue the work she is doing with our current sixth and seventh graders and will continue to serve this group by teaching math and science in the middle school each day. We will be bringing in a new humanities teacher to join Brianna and Jenny in the exciting new middle school program.
We have formed an expert search committee to find the next ELII and middle school humanities teachers and already have a large number of qualified applicants for both positions. I began screening our top ten choices this week. Kelley, Brianna, and Jenny will play essential roles in helping Bay Farm find the best fit for our students. These changes usher in an exciting new chapter at Bay Farm as we work together to provide the best possible learning experience for all of our students.
